Air Force Dominates Utah St in Rocky Mountain D1A Season Opener

The first game of Rocky Mountain Rugby D1A Conference play saw the US Air Force Academy dominate the Aggies from Utah State putting up 14 tries leading to a final result of AFA 86-24 Utah State.

A special thanks goes out to all our parents and boosters that supported the team.  THANK YOU!

AFA flyhalf, Eric Menser, and center, Tristyn Hanson, were fantastic in the back line posting multiple tries each.  Eric Menser also converted seven tries to lead the Zoomies with 24 points on the day.

The forwards were dominant in both the scrum and the lineout had their run at open play adding tries from Jason Kyles (2 tries), Cadet-in-Charge McChord Thorley, Austin Lyons, and Team Captain Elliott Higgins.  Another back that performed well on the day was center Alex Goirigolzarri with a try and several long line breaks setting up great "go forward" for the Zoomies.  Back leader and fullback Casey Rothstein showed well adding a try and executing well on several counters.  With outstanding play in his first match, freshman Ryan Johnston scored a try and made several great defensive plays on the outside.  All told it was a great day for the Zoomies.

Utah State showed much heart and fought hard all day long and that effort was rewarded with two tries late in the game.  USU flyhalf, Jeffery Clark led his team with 14 points on the day with two tries and two conversions.  Game video and scoring line can be seen below.
